Add Domain Controller Server 2016

Add domain controller server 2016. Additional domain controllers setup on the server you want to add open server manager and click on add roles and features. Select add new forest and choose your root domain name. In server manager under add roles and features install active directory domain services on the new windows server 2016.

Set the correct time and time zone. Change the server name to dc2. This will automatically run adprep on the 2012 r2 forest and domain.

In server manager click the yellow triangle and from the drop down click promote the server to a domain controller. Click next until you re on server roles and tick active directory domain services click add features on the box that pops up. Install all current windows security updates.

After your first domain controller is already in use it s time to add another windows server 2016 dc to your active directory environment either for redundancy load balancing or just because another dc feels the right way to go. Go have a coffee we ticked reboot earlier so it will complete then reboot the server which will come back up as a domain controller. You will notice if you re interested that your schema version is now 88 server 2019 or 87 server 2016.

Find out your domain schema version. It can be a physical or virtual server. Make sure the dns option is checked and because this is my first server the global catalog gc is already checked.
